What to expect on your first lesson

What you need to bring

On your first lesson, you will need to bring your Driving Licence so I can check it at the start of the lesson. I need to be able to see this before I am legally allowed to give you any driving lessons. We will also need to check that you are able to read a number plate from 20 metres away in daylight, with glasses/contact lenses if you wear them, to ensure you meet the Driving Standards Agency's eyesight standards.

Your first lesson

Don't worry, you won't be expected to drive away onto a busy road while having a casual chat on your first lesson! Your first lesson will mainly focus on the controls of the car and what circumstances they are used. After going over the controls needed to get the car moving, you'll be able to practice this in a quiet and out of the way bit of road. Once you can comfortably move away and stop further down the road, I'll introduce more controls in gradual stages and we can begin driving further on the open road. If this sounds daunting, don't panic! My car is fitted with dual controls, so I can always intervene if I need to. You'll be in safe hands as you get used to the car and I won't make you do anything you're uncomfortable with.
